We have not appointed a data protection officer, as the legal requirements for doing so (Art. 37 GDPR, § 38 BDSG) are not met.

027B is a publication to be read. We use no cookies, no advertising and no social media plugins. To learn which pieces are read, we use cookieless, self-hosted audience measurement (Umami). There are no forms, no user accounts and no newsletter. Personal data only arises technically when you open the site (server logs and audience measurement) and when you contact us by email.

Data is transmitted encrypted via SSL/TLS. There is no automated decision-making, including profiling.

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you visit, the host automatically stores information your browser transmits in server log files: IP address, date and time of access, requested page or file, referrer URL, browser type and version, and operating system.

The purpose is the technical provision, stability and security of the website, for example defending against attacks. The data is not combined with other sources or analysed for marketing.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is the secure and error-free provision of the website. Logs are deleted according to the host's retention periods, usually after a few days and at most 30 days.

Vercel may transfer data to the USA. Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, supplemented by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool. It runs on our own instance, hosted by Railway Corporation, USA. Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.

It records the page viewed, the referrer URL, browser, operating system and device type, screen size, language setting and the approximate location (country, region, city) derived from the IP address. The IP address itself is not stored. Visits are grouped by an anonymous hash that changes at least once a month, so no long-term profile and no tracking across other websites is possible.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is knowing which pieces are read. The data is not shared with third parties beyond the host of the instance.

The server is located in a data centre in Amsterdam (Netherlands), so the data is stored in the EU. As Railway is a US company, access by authorities under US law cannot be technically ruled out entirely.

The typefaces used (Bodoni Moda and Lato) are delivered together with the website by our host. No connection is made to servers of Google or other font providers.

This website sets no cookies and stores no data in your browser's local storage. A cookie banner is therefore not required.

If you email us at contact@balane.tech, we process your email address, your name (if given) and the content of your message to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your request aims at a contract, otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries).

Providing the data is voluntary; without it we cannot answer your request. Our email provider is IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. We delete the data once your request has been fully handled and no statutory retention obligations apply.

Our articles link to third-party sources and websites. Only when you follow such a link do you leave 027B; the operator of the target site is responsible for data processing there.

Personal data is only received by the providers named above: Vercel Inc. (hosting), Railway Corporation (hosting of the audience measurement) and IONOS SE (email). Where required, data processing agreements under Art. 28 GDPR are in place.

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You may withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)).

Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then no longer process the data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
